A Christchurch community group battling the establishment of a probation centre in its neighbourhood is hoping to negotiate with the Department of Corrections.
The group's application for a judicial review of the decision to build the centre in Opawa has been dismissed by the High Court.
The 500-member group, Move Over Probation Incorporated, sought a review on the basis of a lack of consultation with the community.
The High Court found that, while the department is required to consult on policies and practices, this does not extend to the location of facilities needed to carry out its duties.
The group's spokesperson, Steve Lavery, says it is yet to decide whether to appeal against the ruling.
