RNZ board rules out sponsorship for Concert

Radio New Zealand's board has ruled out seeking sponsorship for its Concert programme but is considering establishing a trust to raise money from the public.

The board's newly appointed chair, Richard Griffin, told Parliament's commerce select committee on Thursday that the only plan the board has for raising money is to set up the trust and sell two grand pianos.

Mr Griffin says the trust would not be used to raise money for Radio New Zealand National.

He says the Government's freeze on funding has made things difficult, but the public broadcaster can survive for the next two years on the same amount of money.
