Waikato police are investigating a possible hit-and-run after a woman's body was discovered on the side of a road on the outskirts of Matamata.
Catherine Matson, 43, of Matamata died after being struck near the intersection of State Highway 24 and Garland Street about 5.30am on Friday.
Ms Matson was seen walking south along State Highway 24, the main route to Tauranga, about 1.30am.
Police are seeking information on any vehicles that have sustained recent damage or have undergone panel repair or received a new windscreen.
A post-mortem will be held on Saturday.
