An Auckland boy has been impaled through the knee on a steel fence spike.
The boy, aged 11, was at school in Henderson when he fell onto a perimeter fence.
A man on a ladder took the boy's weight while initial attempts were made to cut through the rod with a hacksaw.
Fire crews used the 'jaws of life' to cut him free and he was taken to hospital with the rod still embedded in his leg.
