Labour chooses barrister for Otaki electorate

8:07 pm on 7 May 2011

The Labour Party has selected criminal barrister Peter Foster to stand as its candidate for the Otaki electorate in this year's general election.

Party president Moira Coatsworth says Mr Foster is a family man who has lived and worked in the Otaki electorate for 11 years.

She says he has a strong record of community involvement as a school Board of Trustees member and as a rugby coach.

The party had to re-open nominations for the seat after its former senior whip Darren Hughes resigned from Parliament in the wake of a police investigation into a complaint of sexual assault.
