Fish and Game says the weather has meant a good start to duck-hunting season around most of the country on Saturday.
Wellington Fish and Game's regional manager Phil Teal says the duck population has grown significantly this year throughout New Zealand, so there was alot of anticipation among hunters.
He says rangers have also been out in force, checking hunting licences.
Mr Teal says the weather on Saturday favoured the hunters more than the ducks, with the rainy conditions keeping the birds low and scattered over wider areas as they look for food.
Mr Teal says hunters should remember to follow gun laws, and avoid mixing firearms with alcohol.
