The police have charged a man with the murder of a woman in Otaki Beach following a shooting on Sunday afternoon.
The woman, who was 23, died in Wellington Hospital from gunshot injuries early on Monday morning.
The police had initially charged a 26-year-old man with unlawful possession of a firearm.
Detective Senior Sergent Keith Borrell says the man was known to the victim.
He says the police want to hear from anyone who has information about the shooting or was in the Ngaio St area at 4pm on Sunday.
The names of both the victim and the accused were suppressed.
