Town to protest at planned schol closure

People in an eastern Bay of Plenty town say they will fight to save their intermediate school.

The option for reorganising schools in Kawerau preferred by Education Minister Anne Tolley will see two of four primary schools close, as well as the intermediate school.

A meeting of about 200 people on Monday decided to make it known to the Government that it has ignored the wishes of more than 2000 people who signed a petition seeking to retain the intermediate school.

A hikoi will travel to Wellington on Monday to take the message to the minister and a protest march in Kawerau is planned.

People have until early June to make submissions on the proposal before it becomes final.
