More heavy rain forecast for parts of North Island

Further heavy rain is on the way for drenched parts of the eastern North Island.

MetService has issued a rainfall warning for Wednesday as a complex trough makes its way onto New Zealand from the Tasman Sea.

The warning covers Bay of Plenty, Taupo and Tongariro National Park, with heavy rain in these areas from the morning.

Heavy rain is expected about Coromandel Peninsula and northern Gisborne on Thursday.

Wet weather will also affect parts of the West Coast of the South Island and northern Fiordland during Wednesday and early Thursday morning.
