Wellington City Council is introducing a prepaid card for parking that can be topped up by texting.
From Friday, motorists will be able to register online for the card, which is to be displayed inside the windscreen, where it can be scanned by parking wardens.
This will allow motorists to top up their card by texting if they need a park for longer.
The fees include an initial transaction payment of 40 cents and another of 20c for an extension.
Customers can also be texted a reminder when their parking is due to expire.
