Nelson school expels Japanese students after assault

7:39 pm on 17 May 2011

Three Japanese international students have been expelled from a Nelson school after an attack on another Japanese student.

Police have charged two of the boys but not the third, who was a witness to the assault.

The victim was kicked in the head and body and punched repeatedly. He is recovering from his injuries.

Nelson College headmaster Gary O'Shea says the three students and the victim used to associate with each other before the attack.

Mr O'Shea says the injured boy's parents came to New Zealand to look after their son and he is expected back at school next week.

The students are due back in court in June, he says.
