SPCA 'inundated' as families struggle to afford pets

The SPCA says it is being inundated with dogs given up by families who are struggling financially.

The organisation's Auckland branch is at capacity with at least 120 dogs and is having to turn some animals away.

SPCA president Bob Kerridge says the problem is nationwide and the number of dogs given up is unprecedented.
