Police in Whangarei have arrested a member of a new chapter of the Rebels Motorcycle gang and charged him with drug offences.
The man, 31, was stopped at a routine checkpoint in the suburb of Onerahi on Wednesday.
Police say he was drinking from a can of bourbon and the car smelled of cannabis.
The man fled on foot, followed by a police dog and handler - who found three bags of methamphetamine in the bush.
Police say a search of the car found $16,000 in cash.
The accused will appear in the Whangarei District Court next week.
