Ash plume 'unlikely' to affect Air NZ flights

Air New Zealand says it is keeping an eye on an ash cloud caused by a volcanic eruption in Iceland but says there's no suggestion it will have any effect on its flights.

The Grimsvotn volcano shot a plume of smoke and ash 20 kilometres into the sky over the weekend, but it later reduced to half that height.

An Air New Zealand spokesperson says it's incredibly unlikely the ash cloud will reach London but normal contingency plans would come into effect if it did.
