As criticism of the planned Wellywood sign continues, Wellington Airport says it was met with silence when it asked thousands of people in the city to come up with a creative alternative.
The airport company plans to set up the eight metre high, 30-metre wide Hollywood-style sign on a hillside near the airport.
Critics have called the idea lame and embarrassing.
The chief executive of the airport company, Steve Fitzgerald, told Morning Report the sign is tongue-in-cheek and accepts that it is bit obvious.
But he says it's important to be obvious when trying to attract tourists in a huge international market.
Mr Fitzgerald says there will be an element of the community who will never be convinced this is a good idea.
