A police dive squad is joining the search for an Otago woman missing since Monday.

Shelley Marie Carson was last seen on a bank of the Clutha River, near the Balclutha Bridge, in a distressed state.

The 36-year-old's clothing, medication and cellphones were found nearby.

Police say two helicopters and 20 search and rescue squad members have been searching the river and its banks on Wednesday.

The national dive squad is arriving in Balclutha on Wednesday night and will begin searching the river on Thursday.
