Olympic cycling gold medallist Sarah Ulmer will be the ambassador for the New Zealand cycle trail.
Making the announcement at a tourism trade show in Queenstown, Prime Minister John Key said Ms Ulmer's sporting achievements and her passion for cycling, fitness and health make her an inspiring choice.
Ulmer won gold at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and two golds at two Commonwealth Games.
She will promote the trail both in New Zealand and overseas.
One of the 17 stretches of the cycle trail has been opened.
