Police have retrieved two sets of body armour left by officers on the side of a road in Lower Hutt.
The bullet proof vests were found at a property in the Hutt Valley on Friday and a man has been charged with theft.
Police say the gear was left behind on St James Grove last Saturday when the officers emptied the boot of their patrol car to make room for seized firearms.
