Residents end fight against probation centre

6:06 am on 29 May 2011

A Christchurch group has given up a legal fight against a probation centre in its neighbourhood.

The group took a judicial review of adecision by the Corrections Department to build a probation centre in Opawa.

The High Court dismissed the case, saying the department's community consultation was adequate.

The Move Over Probation group says it's decided the $25,000 cost of taking the case to the Court of Appeal is prohibitive.

But the group intends to keep pressure on the department by using social media and the Official Information Act.
