Hearing into professional misconduct adjourned again

9:42 pm on 1 June 2011

The Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal has again adjourned a hearing into a professional misconduct charge against a Hamilton doctor.

Suresh Vatsyayann is accused of failing to diagnose liver cancer in a woman over a 12-month period to November 2008. The woman died last year.

The hearing started in early May but was adjourned until this week.

On Wednesday Dr Vatsyayann submitted a medical certificate to say that he was unable to attend the hearing.

The tribunal adjourned the hearing until 11 October, but ruled that the doctor must submit in writing what evidence he will produce in his defence before the hearing resumes.

Dr Vatsyayann was de-registered in April after another professional misconduct hearing.
