Wellington roading options reach final stages

9:32 pm on 2 June 2011

The Transport Agency says it has almost finished proposals to improve Wellington's traffic problems, and will begin consultation with the public in early July.

The consultation will cover options for improving congestion at the Basin Reserve, including building a flyover, adding another tunnel in Mt Victoria and widening Ruahine Street and Wellington Road.

The agency's central regional director, Jenny Chetwynd, says diagrams, maps and graphics relating to those proposals are being developed.

She says releasing early drafts of the proposals would only cause confusion, and the Transport Agency wants to give the public a single set of clear proposals to consider.
