Year-long delay for fridge rebates 'unacceptable'

6:31 am on 3 June 2011

A consumer group is criticising whiteware manufacturer LG for taking more than a year to deal with misleading labelling on its fridges.

The South Korean firm is offering customers a cash rebate on two models of its fridge freezer units after admitting they do not meet the energy efficiency ratings stated on their labels.

The rebate of up to $400 is to compensate for the higher energy costs of two models of LG side-by-side fridge-freezers.

Consumer New Zealand research and testing manager, Hamish Wilson says he alerted the company to the problem a year ago, and wants to know why it has been dragging its heels.

Mr Wilson says about 540 of the fridges were sold in New Zealand.
