A man and a woman have appeared in court after a baby boy was found dead at a property in South Auckland.
Police say they found the body in a shallow grave outside a house in Otahuhu on Thursday after receiving a tip-off.
They believe the baby was born about a week ago and a post-mortem is being carried out.
A 22-year-old woman appeared in the Manukau District Court on Friday charged with assault on a child, while a 29-year-old man was charged with disposing and concealing the body of a child.
Police are not revealing their relationship to the baby.
The man and woman were granted bail until their next court appearances later in June.
