Submission period extended for Family Court review

9:00 pm on 4 June 2011

People will now have six months - instead of two - to have their say on the Government's Family Court review.

Justice Minister Simon Power announced in April that the review will take place to improve the court, find efficiency and control expenditure.

He said it would not cut services.

An official discussion paper about the changes is due to go out for public feedback in September.

Mr Power announced the extension at a Law Society symposium.

The chair of the society's Family Law Section, Antony Mahon, says he is very pleased the Government is taking the review seriously.
