Lack of snow puts back ski field opening

2:10 pm on 8 June 2011

Another South Island ski field has cancelled its opening day because of a lack of snow.

Mt Hutt in Canterbury was due to open on Saturday but the ski area manager David Wilson says the unseasonally warm weather has forced the company to rethink its plans.

A new opening date has not been given, but Mr Wilson says the snow-making team is on standby 24-hours a day to begin work as soon as the temperatures drop.

Mt Hutt is owned by NZ Ski, which also runs the Coronet Peak and Remarkables ski fields in Queenstown.

Coronet Peak's opening last week was also cancelled. The Remarkables is scheduled to open later in the month.
