A Hamilton man has been charged with abducting a 27-year-old woman in February.
The 61-year-old was arrested at his home in the Hamilton suburb of Chartwell on Thursday.
Police say the woman was walking on a city street in the early hours of the morning when she was picked up by a man in a car and taken against her will to a rural road, where she was allegedly indecently assaulted.
The woman was then driven back to the city to public toilets where she was able to escape and raise the alarm.
The police say it has taken until now to get enough evidence to lay charges.
The accused was to appear in the Hamilton District Court on Friday charged with abduction and assault with intent to cause sexual violation.
