Police say State Highway 1 has now been cleared of debris after a two-car crash at Porirua, north of Wellington, caused delays for Saturday evening traffic.
One of the cars landed on its roof, blocking the northbound lanes of the highway adjacent to Whitford Brown Avenue.
The other vehicle landed on the main trunk railway line.
Trains on the Kapiti line were replaced by buses between Porirua and Waikanae for time, but services are now back to normal.
Police say those involved in the crash suffered minor injuries.
