Hutt City Council has been asked for $2 million towards Housing New Zealand renovations in Farmer crescent in Pomare.
The street was the centre of a court battle between Housing New Zealand and the partners of a number of Mongrel Mob members, who are fighting eviction.
Twenty-seven Housing NZ houses are to be demolished as part of plans to redevelop the area.
The council contribution would go towards better street lighting and a road layout to improve pedestrian safety.
A meeting will be held on Thursday to consider the request.
