Security procedures under review for school ball

1:02 pm on 14 June 2011

St Kentigern's College in Auckland is reviewing security and screening procedures for its school ball on Saturday.

Seven hundred and eighty tickets have been sold for the ball.

Principal Steve Cole says he's written to parents advising them that the school is looking at ways to heighten security at the event.

In past years, he says school staff and a security firm have screened pupils at the entrance to the ball.

Mr Cole says parents holding pre-balls should be sensible and vigilent.

He believes the drinking age is too young, but says that the drinking culture in New Zealand affects teenagers in all socio-economic groups.

David Gaynor, 17, died after attending the King's College ball at Eden Park last Saturday.
