A senior health official says he is disappointed with the low immunisation rate at a school in west Auckland which has been affected by a measles outbreak.
Seventeen cases were confirmed in Auckland, including 11 pupils at Oratia District School.
A two-week quarantine was imposed on 70 children at the 500-pupil school who were not immunised. They represent 13% percent of students.
Principal Sherilee Swanepoel says some parents oppose immunisation and were unhappy with the compulsory quarantine order.
The Medical Officer of Health for the Auckland Regional Public Health Service, Dr Richard Hoskins, says the unusually high number of unimmunised children is disappointing because measles is a serious disease.
Quarantine periods are also in place at Epsom Girls Grammar and a Plunket playgroup.
