Queenstown ski field delays opening

8:48 pm on 16 June 2011

Another South Island ski field has delayed the start of its season due to unusually warm temperatures and a lack of natural snow fall.

The Remarkables ski area in Queenstown was scheduled to open on Saturday, but has postponed until conditions improve.

The ski area's manager, Ross Lawrence, says snow making machines are on standby and will start pumping out snow as soon as it is cold enough.

Mt Hutt and Coronet Peak ski fields have also delayed the start of their seasons over the past two weeks.
