Fears for safety of missing Tauranga man

11:47 am on 18 June 2011

The police in Tauranga hold fears for the safety of a man who has been missing since the beginning of June.

Joshua Baylis, who is 23, was last seen by his mother when she dropped him off at a roadside layby between Te Puke and Rotorua.

The layby is situated between Maniatutu and Okere roads, a short distance from Lake Rotoiti.

Detective Sergeant Eddie Lyttle says there have been no sightings of Mr Baylis since then, and he has not made contact with family members. He says the lack of contact is unusual.

Joshua Baylis is described as a fair-skinned Maori, about 170cm tall, with dark brown hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a distinctive checked grey and black jacket, black and white checked shorts and green Adidas shoes.

The police are eager to hear from anyone who may have seen him or heard from him since 1 June.
