Mystery over young Frenchman found injured

Police still do not know how a 24-year-old Frenchman sustained serious injuries that have left him in a critical but stable condition in Wellington Hospital.

They say the man, who has been in New Zealand for a month, was found semi-conscious and bleeding heavily near the corner of Durham St and Aro St at about 2am on Saturday.

He has a broken arm and head injuries, which require an operation.

A police spokesperson, Victoria Davis, says officers have spoken to the man, but he cannot recall even being in Wellington.

Ms Davis says the man was in Courtenay Place on Saturday night with friends, but became separated from them about midnight.

He has dark hair and was wearing dark jeans, a dark top, a brown leather jacket and glasses.
