An operation is underway to right a KiwiRail freight train that partially derailed near Kaikoura.
The north-bound service of 30 wagons and two locomotives struck a slip between Claverley and Oaro about 11am on Monday.
A locomotive driver suffered minor injuries in the incident.
KiwiRail says recovery efforts could take much of Tuesday.
