Higher casino grants suggested

The company is negotiating with the Government over its plan to build a large convention centre in return for being allowed to expand its casino.

Sky City will meet the $350 million cost of the national convention centre - but only if the Government extends its casino licence and allows it to add more gambling machines and tables.

Auckland councillor George Wood says he will ask the council to request more information about how much Sky City contributes to the community compared with other gambling establishments.

Mr Wood also wants the council to fast-track a region-wide gambling policy for Auckland.
