EMA cancels meeting on chief executive's future

A meeting that was to decide the future of the head of the Employers and Manufacturers Association Northern (EMA) has been cancelled.

Alasdair Thompson caused uproar last week for suggesting that some women earn less than men because they take time off due to their periods.

He has since apologised twice, saying he believes gender plays no part in how productive a person is or what they should be paid.

A spokesperson for the EMA says the meeting planned for Monday has been cancelled to allow the association to consider a way forward in a reasonable time frame.

The EMA says expects a statement on the issue to be made within the week and is making no further comment on the matter.
