Muldoon's Corner given multi-million dollar facelift

The Transport Agency is set to open a new section of road to bypass a notorious corner on State Highway 2 through the Rimutaka Ranges.

More than 200,000 cubic metres of earth has been cut from the hills as part of a $16 million project to improve safety at a sharp bend known as Muldoon's Corner.

Agency spokesperson Rod James says traffic will use the bypass this week after final cuts are made to create the new section of road.

The project was brought forward by more than two years as part of the Government's jobs and growth stimulus package.

The earth cut from the hillsides has been placed in the gullies below.
