A 54-year-old man is in Waikato Hospital with head injuries after being hit by what police say may have been a crowbar during a home invasion in Tauranga.
Police say a man and woman were woken just after 3am on Tuesday by an intruder hitting them with a blunt weapon.
The man, possibly Maori, aged between 18 and 25, demanded cash but ran away when couple told him they had none.
A 32-year-old woman is being treated at Tauranga Hospital for a laceration to the head.
