A man has made a brief appearance in the Hastings District Court in relation to an attack on his nine-month-old daughter.
Police were called to a domestic incident in the suburb of Flaxmere between 29-year-old man and the baby's mother early on Sunday.
Police say the baby was admitted to Hawke's Bay hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition on Tuesday.
The man is facing one charge of causing grievous bodily harm and two of breaching a protection order.
He has been granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody until another court appearance on 5 July.
