School representatives leave out targets

9:57 pm on 1 July 2011

A group of school representatives defying the Government's national standards policy have hand-delivered their school charters to the Ministry of Education office in Auckland.

The 70 board of trustees members and primary school principals from the Boards Taking Action Coalition have left out mandatory national standards targets from the official documents.

Instead they have set their own targets based on pupils' achievement at school.

Ministry of Education officials say 87 per cent of the 1300 charters received so far contain targets relating to the standards.
