A 63-year-old Tauranga man remains in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital on Friday after being engulfed by flame in an explosion in Mount Maunganui on Thursday.
The owner of Trayco, a timber manufacturing business, says the explosion seems to have been caused by a bit of plastic caught in the fan of a sawdust extraction machine.
The Department of Labour has started a formal investigation into the explosion, which injured two people.
