The police in Counties Manukau are investigating how the body of a newborn baby ended up in a stream in rural South Auckland.
Following a tip-off from the public the body was found in a bag below a culvert in Burnside Stream in Ardmore at about 9pm on Saturday.
Police say they are following strong lines of inquiry.
A post-mortem will be carried out on Monday morning.
