Auckland Council says Thompson could still return

5:02 pm on 3 July 2011

The Auckland Council says the door remains open for the head of the Northern Employers and Manufacturers Association, Alasdair Thompson, to return to its business advisory panel.

Mr Thompson has resigned from his role with the council and his future with the EMA remains in doubt after he suggested that some women earn less because they take time off for their periods.

In response to the comments, Air New Zealand allowed its membership of the association to lapse.

The Auckland Council's business advisory panel chair, Cameron Brewer, says it has not ruled out Mr Thompson making a return.

He says the council is certainly not condoning his very silly statements, but it has an open mind to Mr Thompson's future on that advisory panel.
