Heavy rain is forecast for Monday night and Tuesday around Gisborne as a deep low drifts south from north of the North Island.
MetService says up to 130 millimetres of rain is expected by Tuesday afternoon.
People are warned that rivers and streams could rise rapidly and there may be localised flooding and slips.
