Silver Ferns thrash Wales at World Champs

10:32 pm on 5 July 2011

New Zealand thrashed Wales 91-21 in their second netball match at the World Championships in Singapore on Tuesday.

Wales - ranked 14th in the world - struggled from the outset to get the ball into their goal circle and New Zealand defenders hauled in several intercepts.

The Silver Ferns dominated the first half, leading 50-7.

Coach Ruth Aitken experimented with a number of changes in the last two quarters, including replacing veteran Laura Langman with Liana Leota at centre, and moving Anna Thompson to wing attack.

The Ferns were not quite as ruthless in the second half as new combinations took time to settle in.

In the end, they out-classed Wales by 70 goals and head into the final pool match against Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday with confidence.
