A range of measures designed to keep women safe during the Rugby World Cup is being discussed by Auckland Council.
Women's groups have told council members that they fear the number of violent incidents will rise during the tournament.
Deputy mayor Penny Hulse says the alcohol and testosterone-charged atmosphere at some gatherings could put vulnerable young women at risk.
She says ideas being considered include safe zones at public fan gatherings such as 'Party Central' and the suggested recruitment of 'mum wardens'.
Mrs Hulse says a meeting will be held with police, the council's World Cup organisers and women's groups later in July.
