An elderly man whose scooter crashed into a police car in Mount Maunganui has died.
Police say the 83-year-old crashed into the back of a patrol car that had stopped another motorist at the intersection of Maunganui Road and Tweed Street a few moments earlier on Wednesday.
The patrol car's mounted blue and red warning lights were flashing at the time of the incident.
A crash investigation has begun.
The man's name has not yet been released.
