An Auckland councillor says council staff are rejecting claims that they're moving homeless people out of the central city during the Rugby World Cup.
Green Party MP Gareth Hughes says he has been told by a support officer that homeless people on Auckland's Queen Street have been told to relocate by council-contracted security guards.
But councillor Cathy Casey says the matter was discussed again on Friday and council staff have an assurance that this wasn't the case.
She hopes the comment was just a concern about what could happen, rather than an actual complaint.
Ms Casey says the council has allocated an extra $5000 to support agencies during the tournament to ensure homeless people are kept safe.
