Many unsure about what to recycle, study shows

A new study shows many New Zealanders do not know what packaging can be recycled.

One thousand people from five cities took part in the survey and 70% could not identify which packaging was accepted for recycling in their area.

The organisation behind the study, Wanaka Wastebusters, says the Government needs to introduce regulation to reduce waste from discarded packaging.

Manufacturers should also minimise their packaging and label it clearly, it says.

Having different rules for recycling in each city also adds to the confusion, it believes.
