A woman killed in a road accident north of Hamilton had come from Australia to attend her son's funeral.
She was walking on State Highway 1B near Gordonton after the funeral when she was hit by a car just after 9pm on Tuesday.
Police say she was wearing dark clothing on an unlit road in a 100km/h speed area.
They have interviewed the driver and say initial indications are that speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
The 58-year-old woman is the fifth pedestrian to die on Waikato roads this year.
Police say people should wear high-visibility clothing when out on the road at night.
